I haven't seen one station (not even Sirius XM Left/Progress) with a replacement named. I think the person was right who said this was dropped in the lap of PDs everywhere.
As a fan of progressive radio and with the belief there has to be another side of the dial to compete with the complete stronghold conservative talk has, I too am disappointed by Ed's (probably forced) resignation.
On the flip side, I was disheartened a number of weeks ago when Ed was lobbying for Keystone XL to pass and then after a mutiny by a huge % of his listeners, he had suddenly flown to North Dakota and had a change of heart after talking with the land owners. I got a real sense of phoniness that did not piss me off as much as the verbal diarrheal warfare Ed unleashed on the listeners who called him out on his strange behavior.
Maybe I am not upset that I'm losing him in my midday so much as I am bummed someone who was clearing up to 150 stations at one time is walking away. There is power in having that high a number and the longevity of over a decade in syndication. There are other voices - not just new up and coming local talent throughout the U.S. but some that don't have as many stations, so there's hope. Personally I think if Ed had any real dominance at his radio production company, he would have moved to put Mike Papp the lawyer from Florida in as the main host. Not every station would take that billing but it would have sent a different message, but I know I'm armchair pd'ing. There are some solid weekend progressive talk shows that could fare well f/t on weekdays, & some interesting guys currently only on Sirius XM Progress. It'll just be an awkward transition period at the end of sweeps.
