Why would Midwest put La Movida on 106.7? Are there really that many Spanish speakers out in Barneveld? I don't think so.
That said, there are probably as many spanish speakers out there as total listeners for the Zone. Zing!
I am surprised CC didn't put sports on 92.1 -- they could have billed it as "the big 92" and had one brand for Madison & Milwaukee. Guess they're still gun shy from the last time they tried that.
100.9 would be a fine home for the Mic's format. The only people I know who listen to the Mic are cab drivers. You seriously have a better than 50-50 chance of hearing the Mic when you get in a Union Cab. And a car radio is pretty much your best bet for listening to 100.9. Tried to pick it up on a radio at home and again in my office, and it's useless.
I do think it's only a matter of time before Clear Channel drops the Mic -- CC has dropped progressive talk in Ann Arbor, Portland and other liberal towns. The long-term prognosis for the progressive talk format is not good. The Mic is one of very few prog. talk stations left in the U.S., and the lineup of available shows has shrunk as well.
I think CC could do better than the Mic's current 2.5 share with alternative, and have a bigger advertiser base as well. There are a lot of advertisers that don't want to be on talk stations. Stephanie Miller is just as toxic to them as Rush.
