Energy actually beat 97.3 overall in the most recent ratings. It's a cheap operation to run, and sounds very similar to the company's other rhythmic CHRs in markets like Des Moines and Champaign, IL (both HD2 operations fed to translators). All are pretty much programmmed together. Energy is obviously a cheap operation to run, and considering that they've tried every other format on that frequency with little success, where else could they go? They've been trying to get CHR going on that signal for years (remember THEIR embarrassing and ill-fated "NOW" launch?). Energy gets crappy ratings, but I'm sure it's doing better than Big Buck Country ever did. And with some promotion and attention, Energy does have some potential for success.
Besides, there is one other station in town that's an even bigger embarrassing mess, and could be due for a flip. Yes, I'm talking about that continuing debacle known as WLDB.
