PER CHRIS FORAN OF THE JS--
-
It looked a lot like Christmas all December long for WRIT-FM (95.7) — the station's all-yule-all-the-time format helped propel it to a dominating lead among overall listeners in Milwaukee over the holidays.
The classic hits station, which switched to Christmas music through Dec. 25, had a commanding 14.4 share of the overall listening audience from Dec. 3 to Dec. 30, according to Nielsen Audio numbers posted Friday by industry newsletter Tom Taylor Now. That was a huge jump from the 8.8 share the station had in the previous two ratings periods.
WRIT has had the largest share of the overall radio audience of any station in Milwaukee for more than six months; even so, December's eggnog-fueled spike in listeners could be an anomaly.
In second place among overall listeners was WKLH-FM (96.5), with a 6.5 share. That was a slight drop from the 6.8 share the classic rock station drew the month before.
News-talk-sports-centric WTMJ-AM (620) was third with a 6.1 share, down from 8.2 the previous month. Adult-contemporary WMYX-FM (99.1) had a 6.0 share, down from 6.8, while country station WMIL-FM (106.1) had a 5.4 share, down from 5.9.
Rounding out the top 10: WISN-AM (1130), with a 5.2 share, down from 5.5; WXSS-FM (103.7), 5.0, down from 5.2; WJMR-FM (98.3), 4.7, up from 4.4; WKKV-FM (100.7), 4.5, down from 4.8; WHQG-FM (102.9), 4.4, unchanged.
Share numbers for the other Milwaukee stations that subscribe to Nielsen's ratings service:
