Long explanation coming up: Since 100.9 signed on 3 years ago, its relay of record has been officially listed as 101.5-HD2. (It does say that somewhere in the FCC database.) On air, iHeart didn't make that official until last November. Yeah, that was when 92.1 went from talk to classic hits. But before then, recall that 92.1 was regularly used to clear live sports that couldn't be cleared on 1310 or 1070.
When 92.1 went all-music, iHeart still needed a backup for sports on 1310 and 1070, and with that 101.5-HD2 finally became a simulcast of 100.9 (or, technically, vice versa). That's how 1070/100.9 can split off sometimes, as with the Brewers and NCAA last week: It's because the content on 100.9 is now technically originating from 101.5-HD2.
