Rewriting is your friend. Change the copy to make the words sound more like you speak. Skip jargon where possible.
Keep your sentences very short (that's how we naturally speak).
Avoid clauses (naturally in conversation we don't say things like: "In considering the effect of the weather, Bob decided to wear a jacket and a sweater." We'd say "Bob wore a jacket and a sweater today because of the cold."
Think of how you would read your copy to your best friend or spouse. Place a picture of someone you are friends with on your copy stand and pretend you are reading to them (even without trying, it'll make you more conversational).
