The PPM signal is encoded in the audio of the station, it's not a subcarrier that only works in the city grade. If you can hear the station, your PPM monitor can too. Wherever you are.
: That would be what's often talked about here and elsewhere when the atmospheric conditions are just right and things are bouncing all over. It's a DX'ers dream. Question for Chris Tarr if he's here or another engineer: Would a DX'd signal be strong enough to register on a PPM monitoring device? That is, would the PPM signal DX to your device too??
