I know you said it's a stretch, but I don't know about comparing Louisville's "Gen X" with WLUM. Gen X plays a lot of 90's/2000s alternative that WLUM uses as recurrents, but Gen X also plays a lot of 90's/2000s pop (Will Smith, Snoop Dogg, Usher, etc. that WLUM wouldn't touch with a 10-ft pole. And WLUM actually plays new music, unlike Gen X.
I really think Gen X is just a more modern version of the Jack/Charlie format, and something Charlie might eventually transition to.
Whoever hypothesized about MMM switching to this format: seriously? Why would Entercom mess with MMM? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The same can be said for Charlie and WOLX (how WOLX pulls in the ratings it does is beyond me ... it sounds like an absolute train wreck, but apparently folks out there like it.) Charlie and WOLX's overall rating trend is downward, though Charlie is coming off his best book in a while. The novelty of the current Charlie format might fade after a while, and something like the Gen X format might be more appealing then. But I don't see any of the Entercom stations giving it a spin just yet.
