Magnum Communications Inc. said Tuesday that it has taken responsibility for radio stations WPDR-AM and WDDC-FM in Portage.
Magnum, based in Tomah, purchased the stations in November from Zoe Communications Inc., based in Shell Lake, for $750,000. It said it recently received its "consent to assignment" from the FCC.
"Adding WPDR-AM and WDDC-FM is a very comfortable fit for our group. Our first order of business was to reiterate to Nancy Schaper that the Portage Lions Club Radio Auction slated for April 2nd, 2011 will be carried on AM 1350 WPDR. Ed Kramer (former longtime owner of the stations) began a great tradition with this important community fundraiser, and we're pleased to continue it," owner Dave Magnum said in a statement.
Magnum Communications now operates eight radio stations: WPDR-AM, WDDC-FM and WBKY-FM in Portage; WDLS-AM and WNNO-FM in Wisconsin Dells; WRDB-AM amd WNFM-FM in Reedsburg; and WBDL-FM in Baraboo.
Magnum Radio Inc. owns WBOG-AM for Tomah, WTMB-FM for Tomah-Sparta and WXYM-FM for Tomah-La Crosse as well as WIBU-TV 51 for Tomah, KQEG-TV 23 for La Crosse and WROE-TV 45 for Eau Claire. Magnum Broadcasting Inc. owns WAUN-FM for Kewaunee-Green Bay.
Magnum said he and his late wife, Lynn, started the company in Tomah in 1991.
Zoe Communications now owns five stations.
