: Clear Channel dumps Green 960 in san Francisco. Not a good sign.
Well, KKGN had a 0.3 12+ rating in a very liberal town, on a good signal (for an AM, anyway).
The Mic is coming off one of its best books in years (4.1 share 12+, tied for 8th).
In other words, the stations' situations are not remotely similar, at least from a ratings standpoint. Who knows as far as sales.
I'm not sure why the Mic is doing so much better than Green 960 ratings-wise, but I'm not surprised that liberal talk radio doesn't do better overall, either. And I consider myself fairly liberal.
To be honest, the few times I've checked out the Mic, I've been embarrassed as a liberal to be associated with statements made by the hosts and most of the callers. Reminds me of the Jack Nicholson line in As Good As It Gets: "Sell crazy somewhere else, we're all stocked up here."
And it kind of confirms the stereotype, but a lot of my fellow liberals, if they listen to 'talk' on the radio, it's NPR.
I don't think of NPR as a 'liberal' outfit, though -- I just like hard news; it's the same reason I like tuning into WBBM-AM 780. I like to stay informed, and NPR has the best news operation on radio. Speaking of which, the NPR station in San Francisco, KQED has monster ratings -- it's the top rated station in the market 12+, with a 7.3 share. The #2 station is all-news KCBS with a 6.3 share. I think that goes to my point that a lot of us so-called liberals don't need a talk show host to tell us what to think; we can listen to the news and figure that out for ourselves.
