Wow - shot one is right. Jeff is responding to criticism he must be getting from listeners and other industry insiders.
What could Connie & Curtis be up to? There's nothing open in Milwaukee. I don't see KISS dumping Wes, Rahny and Ally. They're doing pretty well still. However I do know Connie & Fish took a bite out of their demo #s. People were sick of hearing about Wes's baby and Ally's drinking, or Rahny's "I'm not gay, I promise!" faux stories.
But I also know Connie & Curtis are way too blue to replace a morning show on The Mix or B93. Kramp & Adler are good on WLUM, and KTI (sorry, "94-5 The Lake") falls into that "too blue" zone too.
The only thing I could see is there are offers or options in bigger markets.
The way I see it, Connie & Curtis leaving Z104 was probably not as black and white as Jeff Tyler's press release. In my mind it probably went something more like "Okay Jeff, you fucked us in Milwaukee. Now you want us to come back and do mornings again in Madison. You want us to go backwards in our career and to like it. That's fine but we still want the same money and we want the option of adding other CC affiliates in the state. We also want to be pushed at the Regional Vice President of Programming as a serious option for nationwide syndication." And since Jeff Tyler is only concerned with Jeff Tyler, he told them to go ahead and "move on".
My opinion is that Elvis Duran is going to bomb on Z104. Listeners already despise Ryan Seacrest being on the air instead of a real human body, and he's a giant name they already knew. However Ryan doesn't even make an attempt to keep it local because he can't. Elvis is going to have an even harder time catching on because people outside of us have no clue who he is. And gone are the days of not being able to figure out who syndicated personalities are, so he will have no chance of passing himself off as a live and local show even if he tries hard. The Google machine ruined that era of voice-tracking and syndication.
I write this all with a heavy heart (sue me) because Z104 is a station I grew up listening to, a station I worked at for a decade in multiple roles, and I just find myself disgusted with what is being done to that station. However I live in Milwaukee now and I enjoyed the morning show battle between Radio Now and KISS. I don't have as good of an analysis for why Elvis Duran will fail on mornings at 97.3. Someone else will have to chime in about that.
