I think what Jermy is trying to say is that the pie is only so big. Look at the cume for the 2 sports talk stations. Compare those to the cume for WTMJ (and we're going to call this news/talk, not sports), WXSS, WMIL, WRIT, etc... There are just not that many people listening to sports radio.
I think the reason that the big companies are so eager to program sports is two-fold: 1. They are scared senseless by pandora (which they shouldn't be), and 2. the programming executives are all males 25+ who love sports talk, so they think everyone else wants to hear it too. This is also incorrect, and you can clearly see it in the numbers of people who listen.
Finally, the catch is that CC will not spend any money to program that station. The classic country station was all premium choice, and this new station is a simulcast. However, they may be taking a note from Entercom's success simulcasting Bill Michaels across the state, and perhaps they think they can have the same kind of success in Milwaukee.
Which brings me back to my original point: the pie is only so big...
