Not technically full blown standards either. It's more Neo-Standards. This format has been done before in other places. Their half sister station KZTI in Reno is doing the same format. I'm not sure how successful it was/is. I know most of the stations with this format were on FM, not AM. Some are gone.
It's more mass-appeal standards. They play the most well known standards artists (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, etc)
Then they mix in more modern standardish artists. Adele, Amy Winehouse, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones, as well as other swing/jazz artists you probably never heard of before in your life.
They are also mixing in some R&B. Marvin Gaye. Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, Toni Braxton, Lou Rawls, among others.
They gotta work on that legal ID though. "1290 WMCS-AM Milwaukee is Martini Radio"
Nope, it's "1290 WMCS Greenfield-Milwaukee"
