Talkers magazine has released its 2013 “Heavy Hundred” list of the 100 most important radio talk show hosts in America — and Rush Limbaugh once again leads the pack.
Limbaugh, who took the top spot in Talkers’ 2012 ranking, is followed by Sean Hannity on the trade industry publication’s annual list of talk radio hosts. Dave Ramsey, who hosts a nationally syndicated radio show on financial topics, made the top three this year, knocking down conservative talker Michael Savage.
Talkers magazine's top 10:
1. Rush Limbaugh
2. Sean Hannity
3. Dave Ramsey
4. Glenn Beck
5. Michael Savage
6. Ed Schultz
7. Mark Levin
8. Jerry Doyle
9. Thom Hartmann
10. Joe Madison
Several political talk show hosts had notable moves on this year’s list: Beck jumped several spots from his number 9 ranking last year; Laura Ingraham, who left Talk Radio Network last year and took a short hiatus before returning on air with Courtside Entertainment Group in January, fell from fifth to 17th; and liberal host and MSNBC host Ed Schultz dropped two spots from fourth to sixth this year. Overall, conservative hosts far outweigh liberal talk radio hosts on the list, and Schultz makes the left’s highest showing.
And in her first year on the air, conservative talk radio host and Fox News’ Andrea Tantaros — who took over the Talk Radio Network slot previously held by Ingraham — landed at #24. Gov. Mike Huckabee made his debut at #46.
A few other notable political talk radio hosts on the list include progressive talker and, for now, Current TV host Stephanie Miller at #12; conservative talk show host Mike Gallagher at #15; liberal talker and Fox News contributor Alan Colmes at #16; Herman Cain at #59; Fox News’ Gerald Rivera, who has said he is “contemplating” a New Jersey Senate run, at #62; and Rev. Al Sharpton, also of MSNBC, at #90.
