That was the same thinking WKTI had in the late 90's, ironically. Nobody got a ton of traction, Hot102 had come and come. Then the other groups "figured it out" and kicked their butt.
I'm not saying Energy will ever topple Kiss. Most likely the same for RadioNow. But, they don't have to topple them. Why? Please open your radio hymnal to the PPM monthlies and see how Radio Now has flanked Kiss enough to knock them out of serious competition for #1 (and in some cases even Top 3) which is costing them money. Who wins? WMIL - sister to RadioNow.
In the beginning, Kiss was considered a FLANKER for WMYX at launch. Protect the young end, double team WKTI, etc.
Country - 1 station
Rock - 3 stations
N/T - 2 stations
Pop - 5 stations - 6 if you consider Urban close-ish to pop (Kiss, Mix, Now, Energy, Lake, V100)
That's a lot of attention grabbing towards a typical 30-35 yr old Milwaukee female.
