They had little choice in where they put their antenna. Height restrictions due to proximity to the airport forced them to put their site on an existing structure.
Furthermore, the satellite feeds were not "designed for AM." Especially given the number of FM sports talk stations and translators that have come up nationwide in recent years.
Many satellite-fed syndicated shows sound like crap because they lease limited-bandwidth channels on satellite service providers. Oftem times they sound like crap before they get to the uplink anyway because of crummy ISDN or IP codecs.
