On a good night I can get WCPT out of Chicago via 820 AM or one of the FM 9's they simulcast on. I also listen on their stream but there's something more special about catching the signal just right in my car or on that little radio in my bathroom. WCPT has made a name for itself among an AM bandwidth that's full of right-wing or conservative radio. In a humongously blue state and city you would think there'd be more opportunities to hear the liberal POV but that's just not been something the major radio companies are willing to work at. Locally owned WCPT however has stuck with it and grows every book and every billing. The station has all the national progressive hosts I like and my old friend Dick Kay on the weekend and anchoring election nights or major local political days where the national programming is preempted. We don't have a progressive station in Milwaukee. Sometimes I can get 92.1 The Mic from Madison when I'm on 94W at just the right spot and I think it's a good station too, though I don't detect the same intricate care I hear from WCPT. I know The Mic is simulcast on V100's HD-2(I think it's 2) but I don't have an HD radio and part of me is protesting that substation because it's just that--an afterthought thrown on by Jeff Tyler in hopes of appeasing the likely small audience that stumbles on it. It's not marketed, and HD radio in general in terms of marketing is dead after that several year campaign Clear Channel and other radio groups did to sell HD radio, which was largely unsuccessful which is unfortunate.
