WOKY is a sad state of affairs, but they did get the Badgers games when WTMJ left them over.
WSSP makes money. Enough to keep it going. That's all that matters really. If the station makes the money and pleases the owners and stockholders, it'll stay.
WEMP's Religious/Brokered format was on the air from August 1998 until December 2004. Was really Sinclair (a Conservative organization) wanting to get some Religious radio on the air and make some money. They did. VERY few listened to WEMP during those days. I remember, They had a local brokered show during the midday called "Slingshot with The Rev" It was hosted by a local preacher with OM Glenn Redd co-hosting and running the board. They'd take callers live on the air. Was really one of the few live and local brokered shows they had outside of the Ethnic programs.
They never got any callers. I remember listening one day, the people that called were a disabled lady in South Milwaukee, and a guy from Glenn's Church. The lady called in 4 or 5 times during the show.
They apparently got very few complaints when they changed the format.
However, it made money. Lots of money. Didn't matter if they had anybody listening or not. The religious broadcasters paid top dollar for that airtime. I'm guessing it took WSSP months if not years to break even, but they make enough money now. WSSP isn't going anywhere.
