WISN, WITI, WTMJ-AM win Murrow Awards

WISN-TV (Channel 12) won the Edward R. Murrow award for general excellence from the Radio Television Digital News Association, it was announced Tuesday 4/22.
Included in its entry was coverage of a fire in Burlington, a police shooting at Children's Hospital, a tornado in Oklahoma and a freeway pileup in Waukesha County. It beat large market stations in a region including Wisconsin, North and South Dakota and Minnesota.
"We are very proud of all our staff for this tremendous honor," said station president and general manager Jan Wade. "It is a credit to their hard work and dedication to their craft."
WISN also won breaking news coverage honors for the Children's Hospital shooting coverage.
WITI-TV (Channel 6) won investigative honors for a series called "Dr. Ripoff," about an overbilling by a podiatrist and for best news series for "Heroin's Resurgence," both reported by Bryan Polcyn; and for best use of sound or video by photojournalist Andrew Konkle.
TMJ4.com won for best website. WTMJ-AM (620) won large market radio honors for breaking news coverage of the Carroll University lockdown and feature reporting ("The Young Historians of World War II").
And the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee weekly Panthervision broadcast service won best continuing coverage for "School Shooting Safety."
