Amplitude Modulation aka "AM" signals get hammered by noise especially lightning. Lightning is very easy to hear when listening to AM radio, and see when watching the now obsolete analog TV (mainly channel 2).

Also digital TV does not like storms at all. I have had loss of signal nearly every time there is a storm anywhere near my home. I expect that this is due to the modulation methods used by DTV since similar weather does not seem to affect others forms of digital communications.

Not a direct answer but my own personal experiences.
