Two and a half months after the baffling format flip to Adult Standards, WZTI still isn't airing commercials and has no local on-air voice talent.
Isn't that a bit odd?
Is this pseudo-standards format (and really, that's what it is- it's not even just a straight Adult Standards format so they're playing music that people in their 60's+ don't even want to hear) just a placeholder until something else happens?
I get that the station is incredibly cheap to run (possibly cheaper than even the sports stations) because it's all automated with pretty much no staff, but what is the end game of this?
I can't imagine that anybody is actually listening to the station considering A). The very weak signal, B). That it's music on AM, and C). The fact that it's a format with a very niche audience who isn't likely to find the station anyway.
So; the purpose of the format is not to get people to listen because I think they know the idea of music on AM is a loser from the get-go.
It's to put something cheap on the air because they have to put something there until… what? The station is sold? More sports talk becomes available to flip the station to?
Surely they aren't going to keep this placeholder format long-term. They have to have something else planned don't they?
I hate to say it; but even another sports talk station would make more sense on 1290.
